The Regent Theatre was built as a multi-purpose venue
in 1930 and is still ideally suited to wide range of uses. Here are the various uses, see if
it suits your needs.
General
The Theatre has a seating capacity of up to 700 people with 320 in the
dress circle and the remainder in the stalls. The entire auditorium is comfortably heated by
a ducted gas-fired system. Wheelchair access is provided at the front of Theatre and to one
toilet. The foyer has a kiosk with a refrigerator, freezer, urns, a sink with hot, cold and
boiling water, and ample bench space for food preparation. The mezzanine floor also has catering
facilities with bench space, a bar and a sink.
The Committee of Management and Caretaker have
a great deal of experience with the various configurations of the Theatre and will work with
you to ensure every goes smoothly.
Theatre, Concerts and Live Performances
The Theatre has hosted many live performances through the years from subtle
dramatic plays to full rock concerts. The acoustics are quite live and will carry both the
nervous whisper of a six year old performing in her first Eisteddfod, and a electric guitar
accompanied by a belting bass drum. Although there are only two modest dressing rooms, there
is ample room in the supper room behind for up to a hundred performers.
Multi-channel overhead lights and spotlights in front
of the stage are provided and can be configured and operated as required.
A 12 channel public
address system with front of house and foldback speakers is supplied. The stage apron extends
approximately 1.5 metres into the auditorium area in front of the curtain and gives a secondary
performing area for use during scene and props changes.
High current power outlets are provided
on the stage for extra lighting or amplifiers.
A truck height loading bay is provided at the
rear of the Theatre, and access from there to both the stage and the auditorium is by ramps with
no steps. An upright piano is available. We can supply labour for bump in and bump out.
Cinema
The cinema operates on a fortnightly basis during
all but the football months and shows movies in current release. It has hosted many film festivals
over the years, the most recent and arguably the most successful was "Big Screen 2001" in
March 2001. The cinema screen is electrically retractable and winches up into the space above
the stage. The projectors are two 35 mm Universal Lamp Houses with Simplex mechanisms and Eprad
sound heads. Both Cinemascope and Academy formats are supported.
The sound system consist of a
high powered amplifier with adequate volume for the venue. The sound is delivered by a horn driven
high-range unit, a vented mid-range driver and a large volume sub-woofer. The horn and driver
are winched up into the ceiling space when not in use and lowered to a position behind the
screen for operation. The sub-woofer is on castors and wheels from storage to a position behind
the screen for use.

Conferences and Meetings
An ideal
venue for conferences due to the flexible seating arrangements with the dress circle available
for plenary sessions and the stalls area left free to be used for additional seating, dining
area, display area or other uses. This flexibility is extended by use of the adjoining supper
room which can accommodate a seperate group of up to one hundred.
The kitchen in the supper
room can support catering activities for a full dinner or just tea and coffee during breaks.
A public address system with two microphones is provided and extras or radio microphones can
be hired at a reasonable cost.
The supper room can be hired separately from the main theatre and provides a good area for medium
sized groups. It is self contained with toilets, shower and catering facilities.
The mezzanine area provides a meeting venue for smaller groups at a reasonable cost and is ideal
for walk-in-walk-out meetings. Again, tea and coffee making facilities are supplied

Weddings, Balls and Other Private Hire
With a huge open floor area in the stalls the Theatre displays its versatility
for private hire. It can be decorated to provide a glamourous and intimate venue for a wedding
or a large area can be left in the centre for dancing at a black-tie ball.
It is regularly
used for sporting club's and school group's balls or socials and has all facilities for catering
and for bands.
The mezzanine area provides a quiet retreat from the main auditorium and tea
and coffee or supper can be provided away from the action. |
